Mental Health Matters: The Power of Practicing Mindfulness . . .
For years, I couldn’t focus. I was all over the place and thus failed to succeed in many areas of life. Then I was diagnosed with ADHD, among other things. I was given some good resources to read. So let’s talk about one of the things I’ve learned: the importance of mindfulness and being/living in the moment.
After decades of going through the motions, I decided one day to get dialed in to what I call “daily discipline” and good daily habits. It’s as easy as having a calendar, whether it be on a smartphone or an old-school paper calendar. I personally use my iPhone calendar, and I plan everything! Work, meals, exercise, church, etc.
What I do every Sunday is plan my week. I go into great detail: work schedule, workout times, time for reading about current events/sports, watching my sports teams, and spending time in the Word.
Life is busy and chaotic. I get it. I don’t have kids and yet still stay very busy. For those with families, it’s even more important to get dialed in to your schedule because you’re being pulled in many different directions. Also, keep in mind this will not go perfectly! And that’s okay.
Plan your week: work, exercise, reading, relaxing, church, meal prep. The key is to plan ahead and to have good daily habits. There will be bumps in the road, but if you plan ahead, you’ll have fewer bumps to deal with. Have a great month!
